Relaxing day at Devil's Lake, and.. Ready to leave on vacation
Yesterday Shane and I put off finishing up our end of summer semester class assingments and took the kids to Devil's Lake State Park for a relaxing family day. It was a nice warm day, and the park of the lake that we were at wasn't too crowded most of the time we were there. We cooked out, the kids played in the sand, and we attempted to fish as well with no luck. It was very relaxing to be out in the open air on a nice Wisconsin summer day.
We're leaving for our summer vacation on Wednesday afternoon! We'll camp on the way out to Washington D.C., stay for a couple nights at a Marriot near the Georgetown area while we see the sights in the capitol. Then, we'll move on to a state park near Baltimore and camp for a couple nights there and relax and take in some of the sights of Baltimore's harbor area. From there we'll go to NJ, where we plan to laze around on the beach, build sand castles and go crabbing. Shane and I used to go crabbing when we lived in New Jersey, and Ciera especially is really looking forward to trying it. She loves the idea of anything New Jersey, since she was born there. Personally, I'm looking forward to some New Jersey sweet corn and buying some tomatoes from a roadside stand. I miss NJ corn and tomatoes!
Our last day on the East Coast, we plan to spend in NYC. We'll take the subway from Newark Penn Station, which is close to the hotel we're staying at in Newark, NJ. In NYC, we plan to go to Times Square, Central Park, FAO Schwartz, possibly Build a Bear (this is what Ciera wants as a vacation souvenier, and NYC is supposed to have the biggest Build a Bear). Not sure what else we'll see in the city, but I'm sure we'll find a ton to do and have a great day.
We'll be gone for a week and a half, and I'm sure we'll be tired when we get back, but we're all ready to leave and get started. This evening Ciera and I went snack shopping and we have a big basket of snacks ready to take with us on our trip. Tomorrow we'll pack and then Wednesday we'll be waiting for Shane to get off work and then we're on our way!!
