Looking back- Karate moments

I was looking back through karate pictures last night and found some super cute pictures from when the kids first started. Because of how I loaded them on here I think most will be from more recent to oldest. It's been 2 1/2 years that the kids have been in karate now, and its amazing how big a part of our life it has become with Utah's participation in Team Eclipse and Leadership, and Ciera participating on Demo Team in the summer. Utah now has only 3 more promotion tests before he earns his black belt! It's hard to believe. Ciera has 4 more promotion tests. Ciera was 4 and Utah was 6 when they started taking karate classes.
Utah's Karate Promotion Test- Red Belt
Utah tested for his red belt on Ciera's birthday. He had a great test, had fun, and proved that he new his curriculum and was ready for a red belt.

This was so cute. Utah and Jeff sparring each other. Jeff is tall, so to see him and Utah matched up together made everyone smile- of course knowing that Jeff would take it easy on Utah.
He did it!! Utah broke his first board, on the first attempt. They have them do a walk through and then its time to actually kick it. Many times it takes several attempts to break it, and when Utah had his last promotion test, he hurt his foot on one of his attempts and wasn't able to break it. This time he gave it his all on the first time and surprised me, that's for sure! I wasn't expecting it, but he sure made us all proud of him. Of course, I think he was even more proud of himself.
Happy to have that red belt! Now he'll have this one for about 4 months, then will go to red stripe for about 4 months, and then brown and brown stripe for about 6 months each: so a little over a year and a half until he will be a black belt. Of course, it could be a little bit longer depending on exactly when he promotes to brown stripe, because they only do black belt tests twice per year.
